The business began in 1966 in the basement of John and Lorraine Early’s home in Amissville. In 1969, the Early’s built a store next to their home and the construction of a warehouse followed soon thereafter. Early's Shades & Shutters quickly became known as a “one-stop shop for ALL your home decorating needs” when they incorporated the design and fabrication of custom window draperies and soft treatments for their customers. In the early 70’s, Lorraine began to sell Hunter Douglas window blinds to give customers even more options in putting that finishing touch on the interior of their homes.

In the early 2000’s, John and Lorraine’s daughter, Sonja and her husband, Solon, took things to a whole new level. They made a dedicated space in the expansive showroom to showcase almost everything Hunter Douglas has to offer, including the different lift mechanisms. Solon, the installations manager, is a PowerView Pro Installer as well as a Certified Shutter Installer to ensure a smooth installation experience.
